Since 1952, North Star Terminal and Stevedore Company has partnered with
the City of Valdez to operate and oversee operations for the Valdez Dock
Company. Back in the early eighties we consulted with City to design a new dock facility. The Valdez Container
Dock with a draft of 55 feet and at 700 feet long by 100 feet wide, is
one of the largest floating concrete docks in the world.
As the major port of call for pipe ships during the construction of the Trans Alaskan Pipeline over 700 miles of the 48 inch pipe used was offloaded by North Star Terminal’s team at the Valdez Dock. During the 1989 oil spill this dock proved its worth. North Star
Terminal Employee’s were able to handle multiple vessels, heavy loading
and off-loading traffic and manage massive yard inventories in a safe
and efficient manner. Below is an aerial photo of the Valdez Container Dock
facilities
